Healthcare Employees Covered by New Temporary OSHA Protections

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued new COVID-19 workplace protections effective June 21, 2021, for healthcare workers.

The Emergency Temporary Standards (ETS) require employers to provide environmental protections to employees that deliver health care services and healthcare support services.

Issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the standards include both physical and financial protections for health care workers. The standards address physical barriers and protections such as ventilation, PPE, cleaning standards, and physical distancing. They also address health screenings, employer compliance plans, and for employers with 10 or more employees, paid leave for workers distanced to comply with CDC guidelines for workplace safety.

June 21, 2021: Employers will have fourteen (14) days to comply with most of the ETS requirements, and thirty (30) days to comply with the physical barriers, ventilation, and training requirements
