A year ago I sat down with the Buffalo News to share my experience and challenges with transitioning to remote work-life due to COVID. From dogs making cameos on Zoom meetings to white noise machines, to the anxiety of the unknown that comes with a pandemic. The same reporter recently reached out again to see what had changed and where I thought things were heading.
As an extrovert I certainly missed the social/cultural interaction of seeing my team every day, but after a year of reflection there are certainly changes that I hope are broadly adopted in the legal profession post-COVID--most notably flextime policies and remote working. Allowing people the flexibility to have better work life balance, raise a family, or live where they choose is a competitive advantage for firms and can ultimately help make us happier, healthier people.
"My hope is that a hybrid/flex policy becomes the new standard allowing the best of both worlds," he said. "I think allowing the flexibility for people to decide for themselves what works at various points in their lives makes a lot of sense."
