Navigating the current pandemic is no easy task for a business. Emerging from the crisis into a potential recession will also be a challenge. There are a number of strategies to employ including deferring capital expenditures for the time being.
Companies are looking at "force majeure" of "Act of God" clauses to potentially get out of long term contracts. Force majeure examples are often natural disasters, earthquakes, etc. -- however, there appears to be a credible argument that the instant pandemic is likewise outside of the control of humans.
I would expect to see an increase in invocation of these clauses, among other cost cutting strategies, as the country continues on pause.
Defer capital expenditures and even use force majeure clauses to get out of contracts with long-term paybacks.
