Border closing may affect cottagers

The U.S.-Canada border is set to close at 11:59 tonight.  If the closure lasts into the late spring and early summer--the timeline some are predicting for when the many effects of COVID-19 may subside--it could prevent many Buffalonians from spending time at their summer cottages in southern Ontario.  As a result, summer rentals to Canadian residents, through AirBnB, property management companies, or otherwise, may increase.  At a time when the economy is not at its best, renting may help families as a second form of income.  Owners looking to rent out their cottage for a week, a month, or the summer should have a properly drafted rental agreement to (1) protect themselves from liability as best they can and (2) make sure their cottage is kept in the best possible condition at a time when they may not be able to check on it.

In southern Ontario border cities such as Windsor and Niagara Falls, residents cross the border with the same ease most folks head to the local mall.
